The
French malbec is expansive and round whereas Argentina produces
a "grassy" one. These aromas are gorgeous!
Layered fruit, coffee and spice.
Cahors has long enjoyed the reputation for producing deeply aromatic,
substantial red wines. Located on the Lot river in the heart of
France, this is an enchanting part of the world. This little
known appelation produces a similarly enchanting wine.
The limestone character of the soil accounts for the outstanding
quality of this wine. True to the reputation of Cahors, this red
wine is dark, tannic, and long-lived but, due to the iron in the
soil, the wine remains soft and low in acid with a delightful fruitiness.

About
the Producer: The
winemakers here, a wife who represents the 4th generation on this
vineyard and a husband who comes from Tahiti, produce a wine that
reflects their backgrounds. You can see the family finishing
the 2009 harvest in the attached video: www.youtube.com/paristntv#p/a/u/1/mxCp_5hbGk4
Tasting
Notes: In the glass, the 2005 is intensely ruby red
- almost black - with purplish highlights. The nose is spicy
with roasted coffee bean and black fruit aromas, intriguing.
Its flavors are expressive and long, well-structured and full of
black fruits. A powerful attack with a mid palate that is fleshy
with plenty of personality; moving to a well-structured finish with
balanced tannins.
Recommended
Food Pairings: This is a deep, luxurious wine; think
of foods that require a counter point. Beef and Lamb, Venison,
Cheese, Duck confit whether the meats are simple roasted or grilled,
or served with sauces.
Awards: The 2004 Cuvee Prestige
was awarded a silver medal in the 2009 International Wine Challenge
edition.
