Bordeaux
Superieur:
The red wines of Bordeaux
Superieur, an appellation for wines originating on the north
bank of the Garonne River in the area known as "Entre-Deux-Mers"
to the east of Bordeaux , put many Bordeaux wines to shame. The
Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot vineyards thrive
in the sunny, clay-limestone soils. Vineyards were first planted
in this region during the Roman times and have continued to be an
economic mainstay to today. The Pommier vineyards lie on the
highest plateau in the region.
Cepages
: Merlot,
Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is largely Merlot-dominated
and makes great drinking now as well as sufficient tannins to age
gracefully.
About
the Producer : Five
generations of the Pommier Family have been producing wine on 80
hectares (about 200 acres) of vineyard. The family makes
both red and white wines for which the property has been winning
awards since 1873. They use traditional methods of vinification.
Tasting
Notes : Everything the
Bordeaux wines are known for - depth, complexity and flavor.
It has an enticing
nose with the pure ripe cherry and black currant fruits enhanced
by hints of wildflowers, herbs, earth and gingery spice. Extraordinarily
supple and smooth on the palate, it has soft, rounded cherry and
blackcurrant fruits plus cedary, herbal, and spice elements.
Recommended
Food Pairings:
This is a very 'food friendly'
wine which pairs exceptionally well with beef, lamb, duck, fowl,
and cheeses, whether the meats are simple roasted or grilled, or
served with sauces. Lamb, steak, stews and casseroles. |
