Lalande-de-Pomerol,
a right bank Bordeaux , lying in the
shadow of its more illustrious neighbour, Pomerol. This area produces
wines that have opulence and richness derived from the Merlot growing
on clay soils. The appellation lies to the north of Pomerol. The
heart of the best vineyards, around the village of Néac,
lie within stone throwing distance of some of the best vineyards
in Pomerol itself. West of Néac, the land slopes down into
the village of Lalande , moving from clay to sandy soil. These wines
are recognized for their ability to age for 10 to 15 years.
Cepages:
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon.
About
the Producer: Château Haut Chaigneau,
thanks to innovative renovation
on the part of its proprietors, Janine and Andre Chatonnet, as well
as assistance from oenologist Pascal Chatonnet, has been recognized
as among the best producers in this AOC. The Chatonnet family
has long been award winning vignerons of this region. The grapes
on this estate are hand picked and sorted, treated to traditional
methods of vinification, then rest in oak barrels for a year in
a unique cellar adapted to provide an optimum environment for the
wine to develop to its full potential.
Tasting

garnet color with aromas of licorice, black fruits, and nicely toasted

ripe, cooked red berries, vanilla notes and round tanins. Great,
long finish.
