Château Macay
E. & B. Latouche
AOC Cotes de Bourg

Cotes de Bourg: The Côtes de Bourg appellation is situated on the right bank at the point where the Dordogne joins the Garonne to become the Gironde , and has the Premières Côtes de Blaye as its northerly neighbour. The so-called "Switzerland of the Gironde" features hilly vineyards with a clay/gravel soil. With the rising prices of the well-known communes, lesser appellations such as Bourg have become the place to look for bargains.   The Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot vineyards are located on the banks of the river, where the soil's high iron content contributes to the rich structure, flavor and longevity of the wines. Macay is the perfect example of the use of malbec in blending a Bordeaux wine.  Excellent!

Cepages: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.

About the Producer:The vineyard of Chateau Macay is situated in Samonac, at the center of the Bourg appellation, 30 km of Bordeaux, on the right bank of the Gironde estuary. Macay was the name of a Scottish officer with Irish origins. This family was dispersed by inter-clan disputes and constant warring with the English. A part of the family settled in Scotland, where the clan still exists today. Another part settled in Bordeaux, the Macay clan took part with the French to oust the English from Aquitaine. The village of Samonac was named after the Macay clan, and later also the name of the vineyard. Chateau Macay was really established in 1740, from a group of 7 small farms. André Latouche bought the vineyard at the beginning of the 1900's. Two of his sons, Bernard, with a winegrowing and oenology background, and Eric, trained in technology and marketing, continue to operate the vineyard today.

Tasting Notes: Known as the "cigar box" wine both for the shape of its label and one of its signature aromas, this is a nice ripe wine with generous aromas of black currant, cherry, prune and pleasant woody hints and cigar box . It's all about roundness, fruit and balance. With its silky tannins and attractive body, this Côtes de Bourg is concentrated and luxuriously long.

Recommended Food Pairings: This is a red wine which easily accomodates a range of foods - beef as well as poultry, cheeses and appetizers.

Note:  This wine is certified bio-dynamic.
