Côtes
du Rhône is
located south of Burgundy and north of Provence, along (whatelse?)
the Rhone. The impact of the climate, forests, lakes and hills,
as well as pebbly soils, on the grapes grown here is striking and
unmistakable. The
Rhone Valley of France has a well-deserved reputation for fine red
wines, but relatively few folks have tried its splendid whites.
Though they account for only 5% of the region's production, good
whites are by no means scarce. The Pierre Olivier 2007 Reserve Cotes
du Rhone Blanc is a splendid example of the richness and exotic
appeal of Rhone whites.
Cépages:
Viognier 55%, Grenache Blanc 25%, Carignan 20%
About
the Producer: Pierre
Olivier was the eldest son of a family whose vineyards had long
been established in Burgundy. Early in his career, he became
the cellar master for an important negociant in Burgundy.
During this time, Pierre began to collect his own stock of premier
Crus and unique village wines. These wines were
hidden during and survived World War II. At the conclusion
of the war, Pierre began to sell these wines to customers and further
established his reputation as having an excellent nose and palate
for the selection of outstanding wines. This tradition, as
reflected by the worldwide recognition these wines routinely receive,
the passion for viticulture and winemaking continues undiminished
in the current generation.
Tasting
Notes: An elegant, easy and generous wine that
bears the pleasant aromas of exotic fruits with a signature refreshing
lightness.
The bouquet of the 2007 Pierre Olivier Cotes du Rhone reflects its
Mediterranean origins. The aromas are of peach and citrus fruits
with tantalizing honeysuckle, lavender and hazelnut scents. The
flavors are round, fat and soft with green apple, pear, and tangerine
fruits accented by honey and hazelnut hints that linger pleasantly
at the finish. The overall creamy, smooth texture ends in a crisp,
clean and juicy finish allowing this Côtes du Rhône
Blanc to accompany many summertime favorites.
