Etienne Rodier

2007
AOC Côtes du Rhône

The impact of the Rhone soil character and hills on the grapes in this southern location is unmistakable. This is a luscious, full-flavored white. It's great with grilled foods, seafoods, and rich pasta recipes. The Rhône Valley of France has a well-deserved reputation for fine red wines, but also yields concentrated and flavorful whites. The Etienne-Rodier 2008 Côtes du Rhône Blanc is a splendid example of the richness and exotic appeal of the region's white wines.

Cépages: Viognier 55%, Grenache Blanc 25% and Carignan 20%

About the Producer:   The Rodier Family has long been a well-established family in Dijon.  At the beginning of the 20th century, Etienne Rodier became a wine-merchant. Etienne had a fine palate and developed a highly respected reputation in Burgundy.  He died fairly young and his son, Camille Rodier, who created the famous Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, took over. The wines from Etienne Rodier are famous for their elegance and their finesse.

As reflected by the worldwide recognition these wines routinely receive, their passion for viticulture and winemaking continues undiminished in the current generation.

Tasting Notes:  Chock full of personality – so aromatic and complex that it smells like a particularly delicious tincture for soothing throats. A fresh and easy wine with a beautiful structure that exhibits lovely fruity aromas.  The bouquet of the 2008 Etienne-Rodier Côtes du Rhône Blanc reflects its Mediterranean origins. Aromas of peach and citrus fruits mix with tantalizing honeysuckle, lavender and hazelnut scents. The flavors are round, fat and soft with green apple, pear, and tangerine fruits accented by honey and hazelnut hints that linger pleasantly at the finish. The overall creamy, smooth texture ends in a crisp, clean and juicy finish allowing this Côtes du Rhône Blanc to accompany many foods. This is a seriously interesting white wine – one that would provide a welcome change from barrel fermented Chardonnay.
