You
need to experience this fabulous wine!!
Cahors
has long enjoyed the reputation for producing deeply aromatic,
medium- to full-bodied red wines. Located in the heart of France
near (what did you expect?) Cahors, the limestone characteristic
of the soil accounts for the outstanding quality of this wine. True
to the reputation of Cahors, this red wine is dark, tannic, and
long-lived but, due to the iron in the soil, the wine remains soft
and low in acid with a delightful fruitiness. There is intrigue
in every sip.
Cepages: 90%
Malbec, 10% Merlot
About
the Producer: Maradenne-Guitard: a family vineyard
of 40 hectares situated on sunny slopes in the village of Vire sur
Lot, in the heart of the Cahors Appellation. Mr
Maradenne acquired the property in 1955, and in 1980, his
daughter, Pierrette, and his son- in- law, Claude Guitard, took
over the operation; since 2006, their son, Olivier, after
his studies in oenology, joined this family operation. The vineyard
is planted on terraces consisting of clay- limestone and clay -sand,
and benefits from an ideal exposure to the sun which matures the
grapes perfectly.
Tasting
Notes:
The subtle blends of Malbec and Merlot in the 2006 create a full-bodied,
well balanced and elegant wine. In the glass, this wine is
deepest, dark red with purplish red highlights and an intriguing
bouquet of black currant and caramel. Its flavors are expressive
and long, well-structured and full, with a clear expression of spice
and red fruit. The tannins are subtle and mellow with a capacity
for aging.
Recommended
Food Pairings: This is a deep, luxurious wine; think
