Vin de Pays du Var
(Provence): The Blanquefort vineyards of Provence, situated
a few miles inland from St. Tropez and the Mediterranean Sea, date
back to the time of the Romans. The soil shares the clay-limestone
characteristics of the Bordeaux region with the added element of
300 days of sunshine per year and cool evenings, contributing to
the fresh and fruity character of these wines. Domaine de Blanquefort
tends vines that are generally more than 50 years old.
Why
a Vin de Pays this year? When making a Vin de Pays, the
winemaker has greater latitude in selecting the varieties of grapes
and the percentage of composition. 2003 and 2004 were drought
years in Provence. At Blanquefort, the Taris produce
Grenache, Cinsaut, Syrah, Mourvedre,
Carignan, Ugni Blanc and Clairette from vines that average around
50 years old. Bold roots have slowly made their way deep into the
ground, bringing up the best nutrients the earth has to offer. The
opportunity and ability to create an exceptional wine is difficult
for any winemaker to ignore.
Domaine de Blanquefort
Red is made with Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Mourvedre.
This complex wine features ripe berry and spicy flavors, a full

About the Producer:
The Tari Family has been making wine for over six hundred years;
during the last several generations they have maintained this family
tradition (Chateau Giscours, Margaux; Chateau Laroque, St. Emilion;
Chateau Branaire, St. Julien). Their latest acquisitions lie in
the heart of Provence. Benoit and his American wife, Cristina, an
oenologist from Bordeaux, take great pride in producing the grapes
and the lovely wines created at Domaine de Blanquefort.
