St. Véran: This
appellation lies in both Beaujolais and the Mâconnais and
covers white wines. The soil here is limestone imparting to the
Chardonnay a slight mineral edge producing wines that combine richness
with a unique complexity. The number of talented and ambitious producers
with estates here means that the wines of St. Veran can often offer
some of the best values in the region.
About the Producer:
Maurice and Corine Desrayaud produce this light, dry wine in a manner
that makes it one of the best wines from its region. An important
element of the depth of these wines is the vineyard location near
the village of Vergisson. These wines are the perfect complement
for poultry or seafood.
Tasting Notes:
A Chardonnay without the signature Chardonnay pucker. This
wine carries a notable and pleasant mineral edge which distinguishes
it from its Pouilly-Fuisse sister. The complex fruit and floral
aromas of this wine carry forward to its flavor. Well balanced
acids make this a very refreshing wine.
