Château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux

Cru Bourgeois Superieur - 2004 and 2005
François and Jean Baptiste Dominique Cordonnier
AOC Moulis-en-Medoc

Moulis en Medoc: The exceptional terroir of this area profoundly influences its wines:   90% Garonne gravel situated on the brow of Grand Poujeaux, 10%  clay limestone soils. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot vineyards are tended in such a way as to reduce yields and to maximize quality.

Cepages: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot.

About the Producer: The Cordonnier family have long been award winning vignerons of this region. They are passionate about their wine. The grapes are hand picked (60%) or machine picked and sorted, treated to traditional methods of vinification, then rest in oak barrels for 18 months (12 months in French oak). The wine is fined in the most traditional manner: the whites of eggs clarify - not filter - the wine before bottling. While young, this wine is fruity and pleasant; it will age well and begins to display its best qualities after about five years.

Tasting Notes:  2004: A beautifully intense, lively, deep red with aromas of ripe fruits and spice.  The palate presents a supple wine which echoes the ripe fruit detected by the nose  - ripe red fruits with a hint of spice and, surprisingly, dark chocolate- truly an important Bordeaux! 2005: A rich red color and the aromas of small red and black fruits are precursors to this well balanced Bordeaux red.  Good fruitiness and length combine to create a balanced and exceptional wine that is made for food.

Recommended Food Pairings: Red meats whether roasted or grilled, potages, and cheeses.

Awards: Vintage 2004:  4 Stars (highly recommended) - Vintage 2005: 3 stars -     DECANTER, June 2007
