DOC:
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo:
The wine is made in the Abruzzo provinces of Chieti, L'Aquila, Pescara
and Teramo where there is a great similarity among the environments.
The wine characteristics reflect the territory in which they are
grown, regardless of location within the region. The Montepulciano
wine has an intense ruby red color, turning slightly garnet as it
ages. Its name comes from the varietal and it is not to be confused
by the Tuscan wine with the same name, which bears the name of its
town and not its varietal.
Varietal
:
Montepulciano.
Made entirely of the Montepulciano grape from the region of Abruzzo.
Introduced
at the start of the XIX century, the Montepulciano varietal has
rapidly conquered the whole region of Abruzzi in central Italy .
About
the Producer :
The Vinicola Tombacco winery originated almost a century ago in
Trebaseleghe, a small village located on the plains bordering the
Po Valley, the Dolomite Alps (Dolomites) and the cities of Venice,
Padua and Treviso: the area had been producing wine for centuries,
but as early as 1919 the Vinicola Tombacco winery realized that
modernization and technology were the key to continued success.
Soon grape growing and winemaking became the main activities
of the winery and through the years the Vinicola Tombacco formed
a special relationship with local grape growers and vintners, which
extended throughout the region and beyond, as the winery's reputation
became its most important asset. As the winery continued to grow
in full adaptation to the new technologies available, it became
a very successful wine bottling company as well. Direct bottling
made quality control and research the focus of the company and the
results are appreciated today by returning customers and new clients
worldwide. The Vinicola Tombacco winery recognized the importance
of preparing and processing the wine before bottling it: the procedure
is very delicate and a research and development state-of-the-art
lab was created to take full advantage of new technologies and techniques
whilst maintaining the traditional procedures of time past.
Tasting
Notes :
There
is nothing musty or old fashioned about this straight forward red,
with fresh "modern" styling in its rich dark fruit and
sweet tannins. Intense ruby red in color with fascinating aromas
of wild mountain strawberries and dark cherries. It is fresh and
lingering on the palate with a very dry finish.
It
is light and pleasant to the palate. The wine is dry, soft and lightly
tannic .
