The
impact of the Mediterranean, forests, lakes and hills
on the Pinot Noir grape in this southern location is
striking and unmistakable. Here a Burgundy winemaker
takes the Pinot Noir grape, the backbone of Burgundy,
and transplants it to southern France.
The
Pays d'Oc is the broad arc of vineyards stretching along
the Mediterranean coast of France. The varied terrain
of the region provides fine growing environments for
many grape varieties. Pinot Noir planted here has proven
its worth in vineyards cooled by the Mediterranean breezes
- sites in which the notoriously fussy Pinot Noir vine
thrives.

About
the Producer:
Jean
Lefort, perhaps only distantly related to the famous
artist, became a winemaker out of passion as opposed
to heritage. A winemaker of tremendous skill and talent,
he has focused his efforts primarily on expressions
of the specific grapes – like Pinot Noir and Viognier.
While not a vineyard owner, per se , he searches
out vineyards with unique attributes which affect the
maturation of the grapes. A purist and a perfectionist,
his wines inevitably reflect the personality of the
vintner.
With a vineyard located where the sun and the
limestone clay soils give life to this high-quality,
complex wine, Jean Lefort oversees the harvest, as well
as the vinification and aging of this remarkable wine.
Tasting
Notes: The
Jean Lefort 2008 Pinot Noir exhibits the delectable
breadth and depth of aroma and flavor that makes Pinot
Noir the exquisite taste treat that it is. The ripe
cherry and raspberry fruit scents are delicately interwoven
with a range of floral, herbal, and exotic spice nuances.
On the palate, the wine combines breadth and delicacy
as only Pinot Noir can. It's a great buy on a classy
French Pinot Noir.
