AOC
Macon-Vergisson
represents an exceptional chardonnay wine. There
are many individual villages that may append their name to the Mâcon
appellation. Most often the wines are sold as Mâcon-Villages.
This village, though, deserves note. Vergisson is located in the
shadow of the massive cliffs of the Roche de Vergisson, just north
of Pouilly and Fuissé - Mâcon's most celebrated sites.
When you combine this favorable aspect with the quality of grapes
drawn from Corine and Maurice Desrayaud's Chardonnay vines, the
result can be (and is) truly astonishing! This is a gloriously
complex wine from the area in Pouilly-Fuisse known for producing
the best wines of this type: Vergisson.
Cepage:
Chardonnay.
About
the Producer: Maurice and Corine Desrayaud produce
this light, dry wine in a manner that makes it one of the best wines
from its region. An important element of the depth of these wines
is the vineyard location near the village of Vergisson. These wines
are the perfect complement for poultry or seafood.
Tasting
Notes: This
delectable Mâcon-Vergisson shows intriguing aromas with ripe
pear, apple, lemon, and grapefruit scents backed by an ethereal
floral component and a luscious, creamy note. The flavors are wonderfully
concentrated with ripe apple and pear fruit elements enhanced by
hints of smoky spice, all followed by a lemony-fresh finish that
lingers pleasantly. This wine is far superior to most any Mâcon-Villages
bottling you're likely to find. It has a degree of richness and
complexity more often associated with communal wines of Puligny-Montrachet
and Chassagne-Montrachet. Everything the Burgundy wines
are known for - elegantly traditional.
Recommended
Food Pairings: Amazingly food friendly, this wine
complements Poultry, Pork, Cheeses, and Salads; a
fine companion for your favorite fresh fish or shellfish preparation.
