The
Viognier grape was
nearly extinct when a number of adventurous vignerons began to replant
these vines in the southern Rhone as well as in Languedoc and Rousillon.
A rare and sought-after grape for its sumptuous character.
About
the Producer: Pierre Olivier was the eldest
son of a family whose vineyards had long been established in Burgundy.
Early in his career, he became the cellar master for an important
negociant in Burgundy. During this time, Pierre began to collect
his own stock of premier Crus and unique village
wines. These wines were hidden during and survived World War
II. At the conclusion of the war, Pierre began to sell these
wines to customers and further established his reputation as having
an excellent nose and palate for the selection of outstanding wines.
This tradition, as reflected by the worldwide recognition these
wines routinely receive, the passion for viticulture and winemaking
continues undiminished in the current generation.
Cepage:
Viognier
Tasting Notes:
Ripe and Voluptuous. This white wine defines
refreshment! A brilliant golden color introduces a bouquet
that is fresh and clean with the characteristic floral/violet perfume
of the grape enhanced by luscious peach, pear and subtle spice nuances.
Impressive ripeness and depth, this wine develops with the delightful,
round fruitiness of peaches and pears with an underlying floral
spiciness. Long and expressive in the mouth, a refreshing
wine with great structure and fabulous, very refreshing finish.
Food Pairing:
A versatile wine due to its fresh and invigorating style that matches
well with fish and shellfish, whether poached, grilled or sauteed,
as well as vegetables, hard cheeses, fowl.
