Cotes de Blaye: The
very name PETIT BOYER refers to a group of vine parcels situated
near the wine cellars: The Boyers were an active family in the wine
circle. Thus, in the surroundings, the sign of a vine-grower named
Boyer, a nursery-gardener named Boyer and a country-house named
Villa Boyer were found. The legend tells that this vineyard island
owes its name to a great-hearted little man.
Château
Petit Boyer owes its particularity to its soil: the vine-stocks
grow in harmony with the limestone soil. On the heights of the vineyard,
close to Car's bell-tower, is a limestone outcropping. It is the
best place for the blooming of Merlot noir and Sauvignon blanc.
The lower part of the vineyard has a particular soil named ‘gruppe'.
It is a mix of limestone and filtering ground, propitious to Cabernets
Franc and Sauvignon. Lastly, on the lowest part, beside the wine
cellars, lies a choice soil: the ‘bâties'. Pure clay
reigns through to the underground, which is still composed of large
calcareous sheets.
The
average age of vines is 20 years.
