Pécharmant: The
red wines of Pécharmant, an appellation covering 445 acres to the
east of the town of Bergerac, put many Bordeaux red wines to shame.
The Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot vineyards are
located on the banks of the river Dordogne, where the soil's high
iron content contributes to the rich structure, flavor and longevity
of the wines. A number of producers here are dedicated to making
the most of the region's potential and its wines are ideal accompaniments
to the traditional Perigord cuisine. Very appealing.
Cepages: Merlot,
Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon.
About the Producer:
Bruno and Dominizue Fauconnier have long been award winning vignerons
of this region. The Fauconniers are passionate about their wine.
The grapes are hand picked and sorted, treated to traditional methods
of vinification, then rest in oak barrels for a year. The wine is
filtered in the most traditional manner: the whites of 500 eggs
clarify the wine before bottling. While young, this wine is fruity
and pleasant; it will age well and begins to display its best qualities
after about five years.
Tasting Notes:
A beautiful intense red with aromas of ripe fruits and jam combine
harmoniously to exhibit a well-balanced fruited flavor with round
tannins.
Recommended Food Pairings:
Red meats, potages, and cheeses.
