Bergerac Red: The
red wines of Bergerac, an appellation for wines originating on the
banks of the Dordogne River 80 miles to the east of Bordeaux, bear
a striking similarity to Bordeaux wines. Vines have been planted
in this region since Roman times. As with Bordeaux, the Cabernet
Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot vineyards thrive in the sunny,
clay and chalky soils. This area is home to many of the castles
and bastides of the Hundred Years' War. This wine has been
aged in oak barrels.
Cepages: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon.
About the Producer: Emmanuel Browne and his family have been producing wine on their property for three generations. Family legend has it that their vineyard was originally cleared and planted in 1151 by monks.
Recommended Food Pairings: Pork, lamb, steak, stews and casseroles.
Tasting Notes: This
is a medium bodied, versatile red which complements a vast number
of cuisines. The aromas of this wine are very inviting, spend
a few moments appreciating the jammy fruits and floral notes.
The wine is fruity with subtle tannins. The Cuvée Prestige has been
aged in oak barrels imparting a rich vanilla tone to the wine.
